Kansas
The Sunflower State’s Warm Welcome.
A Message from the Governor
Governor Kelly has set a North Star for her second term – to make Kansas the best place in the country to raise a family.

About Kansas
Kansas, often referred to as the “Sunflower State,” is a landlocked state located in the heart of the United States. Known for its vast prairies, agricultural heritage, and historic landmarks, Kansas offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural richness.
Kansas is renowned for its expansive prairies, where endless fields of tallgrass sway in the wind. The Flint Hills region, often called the “Last Stand of the Tallgrass Prairie,” is a testament to the state’s commitment to preserving its natural heritage.
Agriculture plays a central role in Kansas’s identity. The state is a major producer of wheat, corn, soybeans, and livestock. Visitors can explore working farms and ranches to learn about the agricultural traditions that shape Kansas.
Crimes Overview
Kansas has a murder rate lower than the national average. The state’s rates of rape, assault, and robbery are also below the national average. However, the kidnapping rate is significantly higher. Kansas experiences lower burglary and motor vehicle theft rates, but vandalism and blackmail rates are higher than the national average. Theft is slightly lower, and there are no reported incidents of identity theft. Drug offenses are a concern, and weapon law violations are slightly lower compared to the national average.
