With its graceful magnolia trees, historic landmarks, and musical traditions, Mississippi offers a glimpse into the heart of the American South.

Mississippi played a significant role in the Civil Rights Movement, with pivotal events like the Freedom Summer and the integration of the University of Mississippi. The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson commemorates this history.

Crimes Overview

Mississippi has a higher violent crime rate compared to the national average. The state experiences 4.54 incidents of violent crime per 1000 residents, while the national average is 4 incidents per 1000 residents.

In addition to the higher violent crime rate, Mississippi also faces higher rates of burglary, drug offenses, and weapon law violations compared to the national average. The state’s burglary crime rate is 35% higher than the national average, and its drug offenses rate is 70% higher. The weapon law violations rate is also 11% higher than the national average.
